The Visual Economy Report was a critical part of that strategy, an insight-packed, data-driven report designed to influence decision-makers. Canva needed a bold, ownable creative system that balanced brand familiarity with a look and feel unique to the report and its enterprise audience, and so, they turned to Chello to bring it to life visually. We developed a cohesive design system across web, the report, social, and enterprise comms, ensuring the data felt dynamic, engaging, and ready to cut through at a global scale.

Creating a report that works as hard as the data

Canva needed the Visual Economy Report to do more than just look good. It had to work across multiple formats, engage enterprise decision-makers, reinforce Canva’s authority in the space and have longevity. Our challenge was to develop a visual system that balances credibility with creativity and feels like Canva, but with a distinct enterprise edge to ensure cut-through in a world of dense whitepapers and static reports. Most importantly, it had to be built in Canva and demonstrate the product in use.

A toolkit built for consistency at scale
It’s important for a report of this scale to be able to live beyond its initial launch. So, we developed a comprehensive design system that allows Canva’s internal design and creative teams to continue evolving and rolling out assets over time.

This included: 

  • Visual identity guidelines for colour, typography, and photography
  • Data visualisation styling to ensure complex insights were clear and engaging
  • Layouts and templates for digital and social assets
  • A structured landing page design, combining editorial storytelling with interactive elements

Visual storytelling makes data more powerful, but only if it’s done right. Our approach was centred on leveraging the tools within the Canva suite to transform complex insights into compelling, easy-to-digest visuals that capture attention and drive engagement.
